Supporting the Military Family

Foreign and Commonwealth Families

The Services aim to provide the same level of service to all bereaved families including those who come from a foreign or commonwealth countries.  Gurkha families have special provision within Nepal and there is a British Support Officer in Fiji and (as at August 2011) in the West Indies.  Elsewhere the Defence Diplomatic Staff based within the country act as Casualty Notifying and Visiting Officers.  There are certain countries where the political situation may make it very difficult to reach NOK but each case will be dealt with on an individual basis.

The family can elect for a funeral in UK or in the country of origin.

Those subject to immigration control who are widowed or orphaned who wish to enter or remain in the UK will need to apply to the Home Office to do so.

All applications are considered individually by the Home Office, which treats each case sympathetically.

There is more information about Foreign and Commonwealth Citizens on the Army's website if you click here.
